Finish & Publish

Developmental editing and writing support for postdocs and early career researchers

Many postdoctoral researchers have several journal articles in progress but find it difficult to bring them to submission.

Drafts may stall because the argument needs clarification, the structure of the paper has become unwieldy, or there is simply limited time for sustained writing alongside research, teaching, and administrative responsibilities.

Finish & Publish is designed to support researchers in moving an article from its current stage toward a submission-ready manuscript.

The program combines developmental editing with structured writing support to help you clarify the argument of your paper, strengthen its structure, and develop a realistic plan for completing the manuscript.

Pilot

I’m currently offering a small number of pilot spots to help postdocs move an unfinished article toward submission. Pilot spots are limited. These early clients help shape the program and receive full guidance at a reduced rate. For information, send your details here or book a consultation.

Who This Is For

Finish & Publish may be helpful if:

  • you have a draft article that has stalled

  • you are unsure whether the argument is clear or strong enough

  • you have received revise and resubmit feedback and feel uncertain how to proceed

  • you have several articles in progress but struggle to move them to submission

  • you would benefit from editorial guidance and structured accountability

The program is designed primarily for:

  • postdoctoral researchers

  • early career academics

  • scholars preparing journal submissions

particularly in the social sciences, humanities and business.

How the Process Works

The program focuses on one article and typically takes place over up to 8 weeks.

1. Draft Diagnostic
You share the current version of your article. (NB. Drafts do not need to be polished before you send them. In fact, many of the researchers I work with come to me when a paper feels stuck or unfinished.)

I review the manuscript and prepare a written editorial assessment that focuses on:

  • the clarity of the central argument

  • the structure of the paper

  • the strength of the introduction and framing

  • the relationship between sections

  • priorities for revision

This diagnostic helps identify the most effective path toward a submission-ready manuscript.

2. Strategy Session

We meet to discuss the article in detail.

In this 90-minute session we:

  • clarify the central claim of the paper

  • identify structural revisions

  • determine priorities for rewriting

  • develop a practical revision plan

The aim is to ensure you have a clear roadmap for completing the article.

3. Revision Support

As you revise the manuscript, we remain in contact. You will receive written feedback on your first revision and we will have a midway check-in session (60 mins).

At this session we can:

  • discuss questions that arise during revision

  • refine sections of the argument

  • address writing blocks or structural issues

Suring the revision process, you can contact me by email as often as you like and you can also schedule an additional 60- minute support session if and when you need it.

This structured support is aimed at helping you to maintain momentum.

4. Final Editorial Review

When your revisions are complete, I review the updated manuscript and provide any final developmental feedback. We also have a final meeting to discuss any outstanding concerns.

This stage focuses on any remaining minor issues and ensuring the article is ready for journal submission:

In Summary
  • Up to 4 consultation meetings

  • Written feedback and in-text edition of 3 article versions

  • Email support

How I work with Clients

Clients are often at the following stages when they contact me

  • an early draft that needs structural clarification

  • a paper that has stalled during revision

  • a revise-and-resubmit decision from a journal

  • several unfinished drafts that need prioritisation

My role is to help you strengthen the clarity and structure of your argument while ensuring that the paper remains fully your own work and voice.

I do not rewrite articles for authors. Instead, I provide detailed feedback and guidance so that you remain in control of the manuscript and its intellectual direction.

If you would like to discuss your needs, book a consultation call

Outcomes

By the end of the program, the aim is that you will have:

  • a substantially revised article

  • a clearer and more coherent argument

  • a realistic submission plan

  • greater confidence in the manuscript

The goal is to help you move your research from an unfinished draft toward submission.
